Analouge Prototype Week 1
Hello all and welcome to my blog for "Game Design Module".
In this week we were tasked with designing an Analouge prototype of a game.
The only criteria for us was that the players shouldnt require a computer or any digital gadgets to play it.
We gathered our team to discuss on what type of game should we make that was fun, interactive, engaging and also easy to understand the game rules once they start to play the game.
We came up with a bunch of ideas that would be fun to play, I came up with an idea of a game where the map is moving and there is a car that moves in the map collecting fuel and tries to avoid the obstacles.
The reference for this idea was I once saw a youtube video of a guy making the mario kart game with a cardboard and playing it.
The advantages of my idea are:
- The map moves.
- The car is controlled with a stick.
- The design looks cool.
The disadvantages of my idea are:
- The game can only be played by one at a time.
- The maps becomes repetitive.
- One has to keep track of the score.
- If any part of the game breaks takes too long to make a new one and replace it.
Our team members then suggested to do a board game so that multiple people can play at the same time, so we once again had to scratch our heads to come up with a board game. Our team came up with ideas of what type of board games we could do, some of the ideas we decided were
- Board game like monopoly.
- Board game like snakes and ladder.
- Board game like Ludo
- Supernatural Characters
- Some actions which will have consequenses.
A bit of information on the above listed board games:
Monopoly: It is a multi-player economics-themed board game. In the game, players roll two dice to move around the game board, buying and trading properties and developing them with houses and hotels. Players collect rent from their opponents, aiming to drive them into bankruptcy.
Snakes and Ladders: The game is a simple race based on sheer luck. A number of "ladders" and "snakes" are pictured on the board, each connecting two specific board squares. The object of the game is to navigate one's game piece, according to die rolls, from the start (bottom square) to the finish (top square), helped by climbing ladders but hindered by falling down snakes.
Ludo: Ludo is a strategy board game for two to four players, in which the players race their four tokens from start to finish according to the rolls of a single die.
After spending some time we decided why not make a board game which we could incorporate all the ideas from the above list.
The design concept of the board game is:
A group of Humans stumble upon a portal and now have to find a way to get out of the Portal by going through some obstacles.
But Wait!!!!!!!! there are traps set that could turn you into monsters?
And the only way you can win or pass through the portal is for you to be a human ??????
